The decannulation prediction tool (DecaPreT) is a prognostictooldeveloped to predict the probability of pre-dischargedecannulationin patients who underwent tracheostomy because ofdysphagia afteracute brain injury. It was developed and validatedby Reverberi etal. in a post-acute rehabilitation setting(Reverberi et al.,2018). It includes only clinical variables, thatcan be detected atthe bedside by an expert speech therapist.Voluntary cough shouldbe evaluated by asking the patient to coughor to clear throat.Reflex cough should be evaluated duringbronchoaspiration or duringexecution of the blu dye test, atdifferent times of the day and indifferent postures (Garuti et al.,2014).
